Louisiana Capital Area CHADD

A volunteer support and advocacy group for those dealing
with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.

Our Volunteers

All local CHADD Groups are staffed completely by volunteers.  These are typically individuals who have one ore more family members with AD/HD, adults dealing with their own AD/HD, and/or local professionals who work with those who have AD/HD.  At times our slate of officers and volunteers is full and active.  These are wonderful times when our Chapter is able to offer a wide variety of services and support to those in our area including telephone support via our InfoLine, inservice training for educators, informational booths at area events, local conferences, newsletters, and specialized or local area support groups.

At this time our needs are severe.  Volunteers move away, they suffer health problems, they deal with their own family issues, and sometimes they just burn out. We have lost several volunteers recently and need your help.  If you would like to get involved and help us do more for those with ADHD in our area, please email Belynda at lacachadd@hotmail.com.  In addition to Officer and Board Member positions listed below, a list of specific tasks where your help is needed can be found on the How You Can Help page.

Election of Officers

Guidelines & Legal Stuff

By June 30th of each year, each Chapter and Branch shall schedule an annual election for the purpose of electing members of the Chapter and Branch Board of Directors and Officers.  Notice of the election shall be provided to Chapter and Branch members in good financial standing at least fourteen (14) days prior to the election.

Each Chapter or Branch should have a Board of Directors that includes, at a minimum, the following Officer positions:  Coordinator, Treasurer, and one other Member-at-Large.  Other Officer positions, including but not limited to Coordinator-Elect, Immediate Past Coordinator, and Secretary may be elected if desired by the Chapter or Branch membership.

Prior to the annual elections, each Chapter and Branch must appoint a Nominating Committee to develop a slate of candidates for Directors and Officers.  Such slate shall be presented at the election, and additional nominations shall be accepted from the floor from any member in good financial standing who wishes to be considered for a Director or Officer position.

Each Chapter and Branch shall appoint a group of Chapter or Branch members in good standing, and who are not standing for election for a Director or Officer position, to conduct the election.

Only members of CHADD in good financial standing are eligible to serve as a Director of Officer of a Chapter or Branch.

Only members of CHADD in good financial standing as of the date of the election are eligible to cast a vote in the annual elections.  A list of such members should be available at the elections to provide confirmation as to eligibility to vote.  Each Individual/Family CHADD membership is entitled to one (1) vote.

Written proxies from CHADD members in good financial standing shall be valid if cast by a CHADD member in good financial standing who is present at the election.  A copy of the proxy form will be made available upon request by calling our InfoLine at 225-261-0613 or emailing lacachadd@hotmail.com.  A copy may also be downloaded by clicking here.

All candidates for Director and Officer positions shall be allotted no more than three (3) minutes to address the voting members during elections.

A simple majority of votes cast (including written proxies) shall determine the outcome.

Directors and Officers may succeed themselves in office for an unlimited number of one year terms, with the exception of Immediate Past Coordinator, who shall be limited to a one year term.

Results of Chapter and Branch elections, including current contact information for all Directors and Officers, must be reported to CHADD within thirty (30) days of the election.  Election results must similarly be reported to the Chapter and Branch membership within thirty (30) days of the election, which may be accomplished by posting results on the Chapter Information Page on the CHADD web site at www.chadd.org.

Welcome

About this site

Thank you for visiting our site.  We are here to support families and others dealing with ADHD in Louisiana.  Please post a note and plan to join us at an upcoming meeting.

InfoLine Update

For anyone who might have left a telephone message on our InfoLine in the last few months, please note that technical difficulties have resulted in the loss of a number of the messages.  At this time we do not have sufficient volunteers to return individual telephone calls, so we hope that you will bring any questions to our meetings personally.

If you need to speak with a health information specialist about AD/HD and cannot wait until our next meeting, please call the National Resource Center on AD/HD at 1-800-233-4050.

How Can We Help You?

A more extensive survey to determine what you expect from our group has been developed and the link has been distributed to all email addresses in our file.  If you have not yet responded to this survey, please click HERE and take a minute or two to answer the questions.  It will be a great help to us!
